Strait of Gibraltar Natural Park: The Raptors Paradise

You are here

Located between the towns of Algeciras and Tarifa, the Strait of Gibraltar Natural Park boasts many diverse habitats on land and in the sea. This unique area has it all; countryside, mountains, beaches, cliffs and lagoons, making it the perfect place for bird watching. Due to its geographical position between Europe and Africa, and the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea, the Strait of Gibraltar is a strategic point for migratory birds from both continents and is surely a place that no birdwatcher should miss.

Although many different groups of birds use this flyway, soaring birds are the most spectacular because of their impressive size and dramatic formation of enormous flocks of hundreds or even thousands of birds, such as Black Kites, White Storks and Honey Buzzards.

In this remarkable birding area, with such a variety sites available, our guides can always find the best conditions.  Places such as Punta Carnero, Algarrobo, Punta Camorro and Cazalla watch points, Playa de Los Lances, Sierra de la Plata and Puerto de Facinas are great options.
